The Trip Of A Lifetime

While we certainly spent a lot of time on the links, we also took in some other Dublin must-dos that we wanted to share.

The Temple Bar district in downtown Dublin is the epicenter of culture, music and libation. We took in a night’s bed and breakfast at the Temple Bar Hotel, where we were given a true taste of city life in a traveler’s-class Euro boutique hotel. It was right in the middle of the action, affordable and historic but with modern flairs. The full breakfast was typically Irish and complete. The guests were an international mix of executives and tourists and it was within stumbling distance of many watering holes — a real thumbs-up.

Also, our two meals at The Clarence Hotel in Dublin — owned by U2’s Bono and Edge — were as good as any I have ever had, and the presence of a Washington wine on a wine list viewed regularly by royalty, heads of state and international celebrities made us proud of our home state. The Octagon Bar, meanwhile, is where Bono and friends stop in for a pop — we just missed him and Bruce Springsteen, who had shared a pint or two just previous to our visit to The Clarence. They do also cater to golfers and help set golfing arrangements, which is what drew us there. Five-star dining at its finest!

Ireland and Northern Ireland far exceeded our expectations. The trek here can be done on the cheap, or at a world-class level. What’s great about Irish golf is that no matter your budget, there’s a trip here for you.

The best part? The Irish people. We turned down many invites to stay on, dine here, play there, meet locals’ friends or just sit down and visit. The Irish are a genuine folk who want to share their lives with you and make you feel welcome. Had we not been always on the go, we would have loved to accept more from these wonderful people.

Kirk and I were honored to represent Cascade Golfer and the both of us saw new sides of ourselves that we would have never experienced had it not been for taking this opportunity.

We’ll be going back soon for sure — and don’t worry, we’re saving tee times for you, too.
