We’ve all seen them — the golfer who takes too many practice swings, the golfer who has an excuse for every missed shot, and worst of all, the guy who just WON’T SHUT UP about that one shot they hit, or that missed opportunity three holes back.
They’re Golf Stereotypes, and they’re everywhere. When we first saw that this video was nearly six minutes long, we thought, “Are there enough stereotypes to fill six minutes?” By the time it finished, we were already listing the ones that had been left out.
Notable omissions?
1. “Gimme” Guy — If his putt is within four feet of the cup, it’s a “gimme.” He’ll make a show of trying to putt it, but even if he misses, he’ll just claim it was because he wasn’t focusing, since he knew it was good.
2. Lesson Guy — Despite the fact that his handicap is only two shots better than yours, Lesson Guy has advice on every shot. “Ah, you picked your head up” and its many variations account for 90 percent of his expert wisdom.
3. Plum Bob Guy — Takes five minutes to line up every putt, from multiple angles, often calling in assistance from friends, but doesn’t make a single one. He’s especially fun to have in the group ahead of you on the course.
Everyone will recognize several of the stereotypes portrayed — what’s more, everyone who watches this is or has been one of the stereotypes portrayed, at least at one time or another. Let us know which one you are — and which other ones you think might have been missed.
