Premier Brings Winning Formula to Everett

Legion MemorialSeattle golfers can be forgiven for favoring local munis Jefferson Park, Jackson Park, and West Seattle — they’re all terrific courses, and represent some of the best values in the Pacific Northwest. But there’s no reason your public golfing experience needs to stop there. Premier Golf, LLC, the same folks who brought you those three great Seattle courses — as well as Bellevue Golf Course on the Eastside as well as Fort Steilacoom, Lake Spanaway and Lake Wilderness in Pierce County — have recently taken over management of Legion Memorial and Walter Hall golf courses in Everett, making one of the best secret bargains in the North end even better. Longtime favorites of Snohomish County residents for their low greens fees, wide fairways and unique combination of challenge and playability for golfers of all skill levels, Legion Memorial and Walter Hall are earning the same kind of reputation in Everett that Premier’s “Classic” Seattle courses have in the Emerald City — that is to say, some of the best values to be found anywhere in the region. Once considered to be too wet to play, even in the springtime, both courses were remodeled in the 1990s and now boast some of the best drainage in the Northwest, with fairways that refuse to plug even in the midst of winter. The success of that remodel is one reason Rex Fullerton, general manager of both Legion Memorial and Walter Hall, says that Premier plans few major changes to the courses themselves. “We don’t see a need to change anything that’s working well,” Fullerton says. “All we’re trying to do is bring the success we’ve had at our other courses to what we consider to be two really wonderful courses here in Everett.” While few major course changes are planned, the company has already begun an overhaul of each course’s food and beverage operations, has developed an online tee-time booking system, and has carried over its wildly successful rewards program. Golfers with a Premier Club membership card earn rewards with each round played on either course, including discounts on greens fees, golf carts and selected merchandise.
