Prange Gets Big Break

Not every golfer’s big break happens on Tour.

The 10th season of “Big Break X: Michigan” — the Golf Channel reality competition show that promises winners sponsorships and exemptions into PGA, LPGA, Nationwide and Futures Tour events — for the first time paired male and female golfers into teams, both seeking a shot at pro golf glory. Among those selected to compete on the show were the 24-year-old former Husky Amber Prange (“She’s Got Game,” CG Apr. ‘08) and her friend Robby Shaw, a Western Kentucky grad.

“We thought it would be a great opportunity,” says Prange of her decision to apply.

Prange is hardly a stranger to the show — her older sister, Ashley, won the Big Break V competition and has since gone on to win twice on the LPGA Futures Tour.

While the location of the show changes year-to-year, the format has remained relatively consistent — each week, all of the players/teams compete in challenges that test their physical and mental skills, climaxing with a two-team, 18-hole elimination match.

Prange and Shaw ultimately placed third, validating their skills while also hopefully drumming up what is the lifeblood of the non-Tour golfer … sponsor interest.

So, while Prange may have thrown her golf bag over her shoulder and headed off the “Big Break” set one round too soon, it’s likely we haven’t seen the last of her on The Golf Channel just yet.
