PNJGA Brings Families Together

Thousands of adults play golf around the Puget Sound. Lots of kids do, too. The Pacific Northwest Junior Golf Association brings the two groups together.
Like many junior programs, the PNJGA offers clinics and camps for kids, but the real innovative aspect of the non-profit organization is the focus on getting families together through the game of golf. Tuesday’s Family League is an opportunity for up to four family members to compete together in a scramble/alternate shot league. For “Girls Nite Out” on Thursdays, girls compete along with an adult family member in a fun and relaxed atmosphere.
Based at Carnation Golf Course and run by Chad Tachell, the PNJGA is an affiliate of the First Tee of Greater Seattle. Membership is $50 for kids ages 4-17 and members get a t-shirt, hat and bag tag, as well as discounts at eight different golf courses. There are also nine-week camps for all levels of junior golfers and a summer tournament series. Last year, the program had 500 members and Tachell hopes to double that number this year.
“We’d like to be a resource for what’s going on for kids in golf and help other programs get started,” Tachell says.
