Everything And The Golf Cart Garage

You’ve heard the phrase, “Everything and the kitchen sink.” At Camaloch, on Camano Island, they have a slightly different idea of “everything.”

“Our new construction homes have granite counters, hardwood floors, new tile — even golf cart garages,” says real-estate agent Dave Hyatt, who also serves as Vice President of the Camaloch Association. “And these homes are going for prices in the mid-300s.”

That’s right. You can live in a brand-new home in a gated community, right on the Camaloch Golf Course, for about the cost of a one-bedroom condo in Belltown. Resale homes are going for as little as $220,000, while buildable lots can be had for just $100,000.

By now, most CG readers are familiar with Camaloch. Built in 1967, the former nine-hole track was given a makeover by famed designer Bill Overdorf in 1991 and reopened as an 18-hole course, quickly becoming of the north end’s best golf bargains. Recent improvements to the 14th green and a planned overhaul of the green at No. 1 are just part of the ongoing commitment that Camaloch’s grounds crews make to keeping the course in pristine condition.

Tucked into the famed Olympic Mountains rain shadow, Camaloch stays dry practically year-round … which leads us right back around to Camaloch community residents, who have free, unlimited access to the course 12 months per year.

In addition to never having to pay any greens fees, Camaloch residents also enjoy two lakefront parks, a chalet and two swimming pools, all for as little as $59 per month in dues. Play the course twice a month and you’ve already covered your dues. Oh, and they’ll even pay your water bill.

“It’s a pretty darn good deal,” says Hyatt.

Of course, it’s not a deal that’s going to last forever. Hyatt says that the current real estate market is as buyer-friendly as he has ever seen it. Places selling for $220,000 today were listed at $275,000 two years ago, while those $100,000 lots are down almost 30 percent from their pre-housing crash peaks. Camaloch’s affordability and combination of a rural setting with quick access to urban areas (Seattle is barely an hour away down I-5) make it almost certain to be of prime attractiveness to buyers when the market rebounds — making now the time to lock in low rates and bargain prices.
