An Affordable Country Club?

No.1 at Glen Acres Golf and Country ClubSo you’re in the market for a country club membership but you don’t have 50 grand to throw at the initiation down stroke. Even $5,000 is pushing it. Before you 86 your dream, there’s a place in the Jet City that offers a beautiful clubhouse, lush 9-hole (18 tee), par 72 championship course, a full restaurant, members lounge, full tournament and social schedule, swimming pool and Jacuzzi, tennis courts and a membership that dates back to the 1960s. The term “hidden jewel” is fitting for Seattle’s Glen Acres Golf and Country Club, tucked neatly away in the rolling hills of southwest Seattle. In short, Glen Acres offers everything you need in a country club experience — all for a mere $1,000 initiation fee. That’s not a typo. All you need is a “G” to apply and become a member at Glen Acres. Cascade Golfer went and checked it out for ourselves, and we found the 47-year old club all class and chock-full of value. Superintendent Dan Kukla keeps the 6,088-yard Glen Acres layout in marvelous shape. Each tee offers a different perspective, keeping the front and back nines interesting and exciting. The course winds through old growth trees and showcases a hilly, yet walkable layout. With a slope rating of 131, it’s not a piece of cake. The day we played, the greens were fast, lush and offered very fair reads. The fairways are wonderfully maintained and offer beautiful vistas of downtown Seattle and the SoDo district. Our favorite hole? The 9th/18th home hole is a pretty, rolling finish and the two tees offer a dramatically different look at the hole. For more information, see www.glenacresgolf.com.
