Titleist AP1 & AP2 Irons

Titleist AP1 and AP2 Irons

Puetz Golf Price $699.95 AP1 • $999.95 AP2

In one of the biggest changes to a product line of any manufacturer this year, Titleist is throwing out all of its old irons and replacing them with brand-new models, including the AP1, AP2, ZB and ZM models. Most different about the clubs — in addition to the cavity-back feature and enhanced graphical design of the AP1 and AP2 — is the fact that for the first time, Titleist is employing an elastomer cushion, similar to what it pioneered in golf-ball construction and design earlier this decade. The result is an iron with a completely different feel than those Titleist has produced in the past — the feeling of impact is significantly softened, while the dual cavity design helps the club correct for any minor inconsistencies in the golfer’s swing. The AP1, with its cast steel body, higher offset and one-degree less loft, maximizes distance and creates more surface area for impact, helping correct for any slight fluctuations in the swing. On the other hand, the AP2’s carbon steel body, lower offset and decreased loft allow for more advanced shot-making (just ask 2007 Qatar Masters champ Adam Scott, who plays the AP2), but are less forgiving for the less-experienced golfer.
