The name “S9” refers to the “sweet” nine different points of accuracy on the clubface, which – like the Titleist AP1 – help even a mishit ball fly long and straight. The FP, meanwhile, incorporates forgiveness into its name (standing for “forgiveness” and “playability”), and utilizes MOI (moment of inertia) technology to ensure high launch and superior distance. With variances for iron or graphite shafts, the FPs retail for a little less than the S9s, but are a little heavier and less forgiving than the more advanced S9. For the more advanced golfer, save a little and get the FPs — its narrower topline allows you to be more creative directing your ball out of a tough lie, over a bush or small tree, or sticking it right up next to the pin. For the newbie, the S9 is a terrific club that gives you all the basic elements you need to make sure those long iron shots land on the green, not in the bunker.
